The Company Held the Annual Work Conference of 2021


On February 25, the company held the annual work conference of 2021. The meeting summarized and reviewed the work of the company of 2020, analyzed the current internal and external situations and challenges, comprehensively deployed the targets and tasks of 2021, reached a consensus on the next step action plans and key focuses, mobilized all employees to keep a clear mindset, work hard on their own duties, and fully complete the annual targets and tasks to lay a solid foundation for building a world-class petrochemical company with sustainable competitiveness.

The company management Gu Yuefeng, Joost Emmen, Nouraddin A. Yousuf, Lin Xu and Zhao Tianxing attended the meeting. General managers, deputy general managers of all departments, BTMs and employee representatives attended the meeting. The meeting was chaired by Vice President Nouraddin A. Yousuf.

Gu Yuefeng, Chairman of Board of Directors and Secretary of the Party Committee of the company, delivered a speech. First of all, he expressed gratitude to all employees of the company for their unity and cooperation in overcoming difficulties and achieving "double victories" in epidemic prevention and control and making profit in 2020. He said that by carrying out activities such as the action of meeting challenges, "My Company and Me", it was glad to see that the company's employees had made great progress in changing their mindset, sense of hardship, and mental outlook.

Gu Yuefeng stressed that in 2021, we should be more aware of the severe situation and challenges we are facing. The environment was changing and the situation was even more pressing. Time would not wait for us, and we should work hard to make progress.

Gu Yuefeng hoped that first, we should be confident with the development of the company. During the 13th Five-Year Plan period, in production and operation, the company turned losses into profits successfully. The financial situation was continuously improved, and the company's development was on a right track. Our hard won advantages lied in excellent employees, regional advantages, strong support from shareholders and good communication with the government.

Second, we should unify our mindset and understanding. The company's targets and tasks of 2021 were deployed. The next step was to unify our mindset, improve our understanding, and do a good job in implementation as per the decision and deployment of the company management. We should give full play to "Keep keen eye on the market and make efforts in the field", overcome difficulties, forge ahead, and strive for fulfilling the annual targets.

Third, further improve ability of personnel at all levels. The society was developing, and the environment was changing. Change started from learning. We should strengthen our learning ability and improve our own ability. In particular, we should be good at learning new knowledge, new skills and new technologies, and enhance our judgment ability based on phenomena. At the same time, in the process of learning, we should have a scientific outlook on the future development of the company, that is, we should be good at observing the general situation, planning major events, standing at the forefront of the times and the height of the strategic overall situation to observe, thinking about and dealing with issues, and promoting all work of the company.

Joost Emmen, President of the company, made a work report titled "Seize Opportunities and Conquer Challenges for a Good Start of the Company’s Development in the 14th Five-year Plan Period". Joost Emmen first reflected on safety performance of 2020. He commented that in 2020, we had best ever safety results, but we cannot be satisfied as long as people suffer injuries. Development must not be at the expense of safety and health.

Joost Emmen summarized the company's performance of 2020 and analyzed the highlights, issues and gaps. He made an in-depth analysis of the business environment faced by the company. He said that for refining business, the domestic market was oversupplied, and the competition intensified significantly, while olefin and aromatics tended to be saturated in China and the competition intensified obviously. He also shared the measures taken by international petrochemical companies to cope with the current severe situation. He stressed that in the next few years, the company will be in a highly competitive business environment, and must achieve operational excellence in terms of HSSE and reliability, further promote the structural improvement of cost efficiency and firmly capture every margin opportunity in our businesses.

In his report, Joost Emmen deployed the targets and key tasks of 2021. He stressed that we should focus on key areas such as HSSE, reliability, capacity expansion and revamp projects and turnaround, energy and cost, profitability and capacity utilization, customers and suppliers, people and organization, and work hard to tackle challenges and lay a solid foundation for the company's all-round and high-quality development.

Vice President Lin Xu and Vice President Zhao Tianxing respectively made special reports on quality and profitability improvement, and safety and reliability.

The meeting awarded the Outstanding Groups, including the epidemic prevention and control group, the cross-functional group for the construction and start-up of the new Sulfur Recovery Unit project and the CIMS management and assessment support group; awarded the Outstanding Shift Teams, including the S-Zorb alkylation shift team #3 of Fuels-2 Business Team, the shift team #3 of Product Quality Center of Technical & Planning Department and the shift team #3 of Offsites Business Team; awarded the Outstanding Business Module, i.e. the Customer Service and Land Transport Logistics Module of Marketing & Sales Department; awarded 10 Outstanding Employees, including Shi Shajun, Wu Caihua, Chen Jianhua, Zhuang Weizhong, Chen Zhiyuan, Zhuang Weibin, Li Yan, Huang Haibo, Li Zeng and Xiong Xiaohuan, and awarded 6 Outstanding Employee Nominatees including Zheng Hainan, Tian Yun, Liang Hairui, Qiu Lanfang, Guo Wei and Yu Jingli and the Best Popularity Award to Zhuang Weibin.

The meeting also arranged breakout discussions and reached a consensus on the company's targets and tasks of 2021, as well as the key focus areas and work priorities, further enhanced the sense of responsibility and urgency of profitability improvement, to fulfill duties and responsibilities and make contributions to completing the annual targets and tasks.
